analysis of movie poster
October 8, 2009
Film – Notes on a Scandal
Year – 2oo6
Genre -Pyschological drama
The very first thing i noted about this film poster was the colour that is used. The colours really stand out amongst anything else and are quite unusual colouring. The deep red on Judi Dench suggests that she is the villian of the film, as red is related to evil and danger the majority of the time whereas Cate Blanchett is highlighted with a deep yellow, suggesting that she is the innocent one in the film. The postioing of the two head is also something i noted to be unusual. With Judi Dench just behind Cate Blanchett it appears that she is almost lurking behind her, suggesting that the relationship between the two is not a pleasent one. I also noted how unusual it was that Judi Dench is looking straight at the camera whereas Cate Blanchett is looking away, as if she is looking into the distance., again relating to the tweo characters they are portratying in the film. The font also suggests the genre of the film with it being bold and in deep red and black, which are dark colours and are usually regarded as negative colours. There is only one bit of writing that is in a different colour, this is to make that particular sentence stand out amongst the others, this is done the grab the viewers attention to that part. Overall the poster gives off a unwelcoming, sinister and negative vibe, suggesting that the film does too.

Pretty encouraging stuff but as Mr T says you need to start switching the focus to your own creative ideas.
Also, what’s the Mr Vengeance trailer for? Why no analysis?
